Pat Plunkett was appointed Non-Executive Chairman of the Company in October 2016. He was previously Non-Executive Chairman of Tullow Oil Plc from 2000 to 2011 during which time Tullow grew from a small cap Oil & Gas plc to become Africa's leading independent oil company and a constituent of the UK's FTSE100. He is currently Executive Chairman of T5 Oil and Gas Ltd, a private company he founded in 2013 and which is focused on acquiring oil and gas assets in Africa and the Middle East. Pat has over 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector. He was a founding partner of the Riada & Co stockbroking and corporate finance businesses and following their acquisition by ABN AMRO NV, he continued to manage these businesses until 1998. He is a former director of the Irish Stock Exchange.
Board and management
Alan has a degree in Chemical Engineering from Strathclyde University and is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
Following 10 years downstream oil refining experience with Exxon/Mobil, Alan transferred to the upstream with Exxon and trained in reservoir engineering in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico. Alan moved into the independent O&G sector working in international operations for LASMO in Pakistan and Venezuela. Following the sale of LASMO, Alan joined Cairn Energy as Country Manager for India. During his tenure, Cairn discovered the Mangala Field in Rajasthan, a waxy oil field and the largest oil discovery in the world in 2004. The field shares many characteristics with Providence Resources Barryroe Oil and Gas Field, offshore Cork. On leaving Cairn Energy, Alan continued working internationally in a number of roles with independent oil and gas companies, including Tullow. Alan joined Roc Oil in 2008 and was appointed CEO in 2010. Following a business restructure which included the successful expansion of the business into field developments in Malaysia and China and reduced exposure to exploration, ROC Oil was sold a Chinese investor 2014. Alan joined Afren as CEO in 2014 working with shareholders and investors to restructure business funding. Following the administration of the business Alan remained in place with a small team working to maximise recovery for investors. Alan joined Third Energy Onshore in 2017 as COO then CEO. Following the sale of the business in July 2019 Alan remained with the business to support a stable transition to the new owners. Alan left Third Energy in December 2019.
Andrew Mackay has over 40 years’ experience in the industry. He joined Halliburton in 1975 and was moved to Cork as engineering manager in 1977. This was followed by two years as district engineer in Norway and then three years with Saudi Aramco in various drilling engineering roles. Moving back to the UK he joined the government’s O&G division until 1990 when he moved to Ranger Oil to manage their drilling operations in the Central & Northern UKCS. This included the difficult 29/04b-03 well which used the first 20Kpsi BOP offshore. Moving back to the government in 1993 he assisted in the development and implementation of the safety case regulations. In December 1993 a position was taken at Amoco as a well operations advisor and this continued until 1999 since when he has concentrated on NRG. He had founded the NRG Group of Companies in 1988 (as a government contractor) and has served as CEO and Chairman ever since. NRG’s remit is far-reaching both in geographical and work-related terms and has contracts with upwards of 60 UK and International Operators. Mr Mackay has also worked as an expert witness for many Operators and Service Companies in the past 20 years including BP Macondo.
